Become a TV Star…with lights, camera, action!
If you had 25 seconds, what would you say to others about bullying or cyberbullying? Write it in one paragraph and email it to [email protected]
Up to six top winners will have their suggestions scripted and storyboarded and will star in a professionally produced 30 second public service announcement (PSA) that will air on Bright House Networks’ cable channels in October, 2013 and be posted on IPS Tube, SafeConnects.org, and Net Literacy’s YouTube channel.

CONTEST RULES as of March 24, 2013

3. Who will judge the videos? Net Literacy student volunteers.
4. What is the purpose of the videos? These videos will be used by teachers, parents, youth workers, teens, and other nonprofits to teach Internet safety to teens.
5. GAME CONTEST RULES
Net Literacy, with its affiliated organizations (collectively “Sponsor”) presents the following contest to promote Internet safety among students in grades 3-12. Participants of the contest will write a paragraph answering one or more of the following question Categories:
- What can someone who witnesses a person being bullied do?
- How can you help someone who is being bullied?
- If someone is bullying you, how can you effectively respond?
- If you engage in bullying, how can you stop and why should you stop?
- If your friend is engaging in bullying, how can you stop your friend and why should you stop your friend?
- If you are angry at someone and feel like being hurtful, what can you think about that would make you stop?
- What are your thoughts about someone you see who reaches out to be kind to someone who was bullied or who publicly tells a person who is bullying to stop?
By entering the contest (“Entrant”), Entrant agrees that their participation in the contest will be governed by, and Entrant shall abide by the following:
1. Description of the contest: The goal of the Students Against Bullying Awareness Contest (“Contest”) is to educate others in the ways to combat bullying and cyberbullying through digital media and learning. Contest Entrants are invited to submit a paragraph answering one of the seven questions, as described herein above.
2. Eligibility. The Contest is open only to active full-time Indianapolis Public School students (must be able to present proof) currently enrolled in grades 3-12 for any time during the contest period (March 24, 2013 to June 7, 2013 or any contest extensions as decided by the Sponsor) and who are legal residents of one of the fifty (50) states of the United States District of Columbia. Students must participate individually. Students meeting these qualifications are defined as Eligible Students.
3. How to enter. Eligible Students will submit contact information (Eligible Student’s name, name of school, grade, and the name and email of one of his or her IPS teachers), a one paragraph response to one of the seven questions (and no more than three responses to three questions) to [email protected]. Paragraphs will be reviewed based upon the following criteria: (a) the applicant is Eligible in accordance with Section 2 and (b) the creativity, impact, and instructional value of the entry and if the entry is positive, engaging, and empowering. Each Eligible student may submit no more than three entries. The subject of the email should be “Anti-bullying Competition at (your school’s name).
4. The entry period for the contest begins at 9:00 a.m. Eastern Time (ET) on March 24, 2013 and ends at 11:59 p.m. on June 7, 2013 unless extended in accordance with the Contest via notification on the Net Literacy website.
5. Official Rules: Each submission must comply with the following:
a. Each submission should answer one of the seven questions listed. in 5 Contest Game Rules. Teachers may submit a student’s or students’ responses.
b. Contestants must review and agree to Contest Rules.
c. Each Entrant must be an IPS student in good standing.
d. The submission must be Entrant’s own original work, created solely by Entrant, though guidance may be provided by teachers or other adults. The submission must not have been previously published, released or distributed in any form; must not have won any award; and must not infringe or violate any copyright, trademark, privacy, publicity, or other personal or proprietary rights of any person or entity.
e. Up to six IPS students will be selected to have their paragraph scripted and storyboarded into a 30 second PSA. Net Literacy retains the artistic right to emphasize, add, or delete portions of the paragraph so that it meets the 30 second time constraint and is consistent with the content in the other PSAs and the learning outcomes Net Literacy believes are most important. Net Literacy hopes to identify six winning entries but may determine that there are less than six winning entries, in its sole opinion.
f. Winning Eligible Student will have the right, but not the obligation to star in the PSA based upon the Eligible Student’s winning entry. If the winning Eligible Student chooses not to star in the PSA, Net Literacy may ask another student to star in the PSA.
g. The PSAs will be produced in an Indianapolis production studio. All winning Eligible Students are responsible for their own transportation and for any other related expenses when traveling to the production studio. There will not be any retakes for students unable to attend the production shoot.
h. Winning Eligible Students and a parent, if the Winning Eligible Student is 17 years of age or younger, must sign a Net Literacy Personal Appearance Release form (see bottom of this page for a copy of the Personal Appearance Release form.
i. No personally identifiable information will be released about any entry, expect winning student entries’ information submitted in the email will be forward to the teacher listed in the email or the student’s principal.
j. Entrant may not be, nor may Entrant work with, parties in conjunction with the submission who are 1) represented under contract (e.g., by a talent agent or manager) that would limit or impair Sponsor’s ability to display the submission in any media form; 2) subject to an acting or modeling contract that would make Entrant/their appearance in the submission a violation of third party rights; or 3) under any other contractual relationship, including but not limited to guild and/or union memberships, that may prevent Sponsor from being able to use the submissions worldwide in all media in perpetuity on a royalty-free basis without payment or fee obligations.
k. Sponsor reserves the right in its sole and unfettered discretion to disqualify any submission that it believes violates or potentially violates any of the foregoing requirements or otherwise fails to comply with any of the foregoing requirements or otherwise fails to comply with any provision of these Official Rules. The decisions of Sponsor on this and all matters pertaining to the contest shall be final and binding.
l. Entrants and Teachers agree to indemnify and hold Sponsor harmless from and against any suits, claims, damages, expenses, including reasonable attorney fees that may arise from or in connection with Entrant’s submission and the use and or display of Entrant’s submission.
FINALIST SELECTION AND TAPING OF THE PSA. Sponsor will select as many as six winning entries no later than August 1st. Winners will be notified promptly and invited to star in their PSA. PSA production will take place in August or September. PSAs will air in October, which is anti-bullying month.
Entrant will serve as a Net Literacy volunteer for purposing of the writing of the entries and taping of the PSA, and as a volunteer, will not have any tax liability. Entrant failing to provide the necessary information hereby waives and releases Sponsor and its affiliates from any claim, dispute, lawsuit or the like arising out of and in connection with this contest. Entrants must respond to Sponsor’s emails within 72 hours. Entrants may not modify the focus of their video after submission of Eligibility, except with the expressed written approval of the Sponsor. Due to logistical and management constraints, Entrants may not modify their contact information without permission of Sponsor.
GRANT OF RIGHTS: By entering, each Entrant grants Sponsor and its designees the irrevocable royalty-free the right to display their submission, including Entrant’s name or in the case of a team, name and information for each member of the team) at the Net Literacy site for purposes of this contest without further notice or consideration, in perpetuity. Entrants further grant Sponsor and its designee an exclusive, irrevocable, royalty-free license to display their submission on cable, broadcast television, wireless devices such as cell phones, and on third party websites including but not limited to You Tube, Google+, Facebook, Twitter, and similar sites for promotional or educational purposes. Winners hereby grant Sponsor a royalty-free right to reproduce, exploit, adapt, use and display worldwide in perpetuity, without geographic or time limitation, for promotion or education related purposes in any and all media without further notice or compensation; however, Sponsor will attempt to acknowledge or credit Entrant in the event that Entrant includes crediting information on the video. Winners agree to sign any documents that may be necessary to affect the assignment of licensing rights.
CONDITIONS OF PARTICIPATION.
The Sponsor reserves the right in its sole discretion, to modify the terms and conditions of the contest, cancel, terminate, and/or suspend the contest and to disqualify any Entrant that tampers with the entry process, violates these official rules, or acts in a disruptive or unsportsmanlike manner. Without limiting the foregoing, Sponsor may reject any submission, if in Sponsor’s sole judgment, the Entrant has been disqualified, has questionable eligibility or is otherwise ineligible to enter or participate. CAUTION: Any person who attempts deliberately to undermine the legitimate operation of this contest may be subject to civil and/or criminal penalties and fines; and Sponsor reserves the right to seek damages from any such person to the fullest extent permitted by law.
Without limiting the foregoing, Sponsor may modify, cancel, terminate, and/or suspend the contest if, in Sponsor’s sole opinion, an incident of any kind occurs to corrupt or impair the administration, security, integrity, fairness or play (as intended) of the contest including without limitation: a) earthquake, flood, fire, storm or other natural disaster or act of God or b) labor controversy or threat thereof, civil disturbance or commotion, disruption of the public markets, war or armed conflict (whether or not officially declared).
As a condition of receiving a prize, potential winners must complete and return a signed statement confirming eligibility, a waiver and release, and except where prohibited, a publicity release within seven (7) days of the date stated on the prize notice.
By participating in the contest all Entrants and Teachers agree to release, indemnify and hold harmless Sponsor and its affiliated organizations from and against any liability, injury, death, loss or damages to Entrant or any person or entity, including without limitation damage to personal or real property, caused in whole or in part, directly or indirectly by reason of their participation in this contest (or related activities) or their acceptance, possession or use/misuse of a prize.
DISCLAIMER. NOTWITHSTANDING ANYTHING TO THE CONTRARY, IN NO EVENT WILL ANY OF THE SPONSOR PARTIES BE LIABLE TO ENTRANT OR ANY THIRD PARTY FOR ANY SPECIAL, INCIDENTAL OR CONSEQUENTIAL DAMAGES, LOSS OF REVENUES, LOST PROFITS, LOST CAPITAL OR OVERHEAD, WHETHER BASED ON BREACH OF CONTRACT, TORT (INCLUDING NEGLIGENCE) OR OTHERWISE, WHETHER OR NOT SPONSOR HAS BEEN ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES. In the event that Entrant or a third party litigates in behalf of or in association with a Entrant names Sponsor as a defendant in litigation, Entrant will pay for Sponsor’s reasonable legal costs and expenses. Net Literacy is an all-volunteer nonprofit with a board 50% comprised of students trying to make a difference by increasing Internet safety awareness. We’ll try to do everything correctly but the world seems far too litigious to us – so it’s best to participate in another programs if you’re uncomfortable settling a dispute with words. We’ll listen to what you have to say but Entrants agree, by participating in the Contest, that the Sponsor (that’s us), will have the absolute and incontestable right to settle any disputes and make any decisions. Thanks for understanding.
Except where prohibited, Entrants hereby grant Sponsor the right to use their names, likenesses, voices, opinions and biographical information for publicity or education related purposes.
Sponsor is not responsible for lost, late, incomplete, damaged, stolen, invalid, unintelligible or misdirected information. Sponsor is not responsible for lost or late entries nor for electronic transmission errors resulting in omission, interruption, deletion, defect, delay in operations or transmission, theft or destruction or unauthorized access to or alterations of entry materials, or for technical, network, telephone equipment, electronic, computer, hardware, software malfunctions or limitations of any kind, or inaccurate transmissions or failure to receive entry information by Sponsor or presenter on account of technical problems or traffic congestion on the Internet or at any web site or combination thereof. If for any reason the program is not capable of running as planned including infection by computer virus, bugs, tampering, unauthorized intervention, fraud, technical failures, or any other causes beyond the control of Sponsor which corrupt or affect the administration, security, fairness, integrity, or proper conduct of the contest, the Sponsor reserves the right at its sole discretion , to disqualify any individual who tampers with the entry process, and to cancel, terminate, modify or suspend the contest. Sponsor reserves the right to select winners from eligible entries received as of the termination date. Any attempt by a contestant to deliberately damage any web site or undermine the legitimate operation of the game is a violation of criminal and civil laws and should such an attempt be made, Sponsor reserves the right to seek damages from any such contestant to the fullest extent of the law. If there is a dispute as to the identity of the Entrant, the prize will be awarded to the authorized account holder of the email address. The “authorized account holder” is defined as the natural person to whom the email address is assigned.
No Limitation on Exploitation of Materials. Each Entrant acknowledges that each of the Sponsor parties engage and have engaged in and will in the future engage in the development, preparation, production, acquisition and dissemination of creative, educational, artistic and other material (collectively, the “Materials”), including without limitation Materials that are similar or identical to Entrants submission. Each Entrant also acknowledges that other persons, including the Sponsor parties, may previously have originated and/or submitted to Sponsor or others, and may hereafter originate or submit, Materials that are similar or identical to Entrant’s submission. Each Entrant agrees that it will not be entitled to any compensation because of the use by Sponsor parties by such similar or identical Material. Without limitation of the foregoing, the Sponsor parties may use, without any payment or other obligation whatsoever to any Entrant, any part of the Materials, and any idea or concept contained therein, that is similar or identical to Entrant’s submission. Entrant agrees that the Sponsor development, preparation, production, acquisition, dissemination and/or exploitation of Materials similar or identical to Entrants submission or containing ideas, features, material and/or elements similar or identical with those contained in Entrant’s submission shall not entitle the Entrant to any compensation or other right or remedy whatsoever. Acceptance by Sponsor is not an admission by Sponsor of the novelty or originality of the submission.
All issues and questions concerning the construction, validity, interpretation and enforceability of these official rules or the rights and obligations of participants or Sponsor in connection with the contest shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the internal laws of the state of Indiana, without giving effect to any choice of law or conflict of law rules or provisions that would cause the application of any other state laws. Claims may not be resolved through any form of class action. Venue for all suits and actions will be in federal or state courts located in Marion County, State of Indiana.
If any provisions of these official rules are held to be invalid or unenforceable, all remaining provisions hereof will remain in full force and effect.
