Net Literacy Looks to 2009 and Beyond

Will Petrovic, Net Literacy Youth Chair for the 2008-2009 school year sees continued growth for Net Literacy's youth empowered organization.

"2009 will be the year," Will Petrovic says, "that Net Literacy's digital inclusion program will reach the '100,000 individual with increased computer access' milestone. We plan to continue to grow our Internet safety programs – and will have made available to municipalities for broadcast on their Government Channels three 50 minute age appropriate Internet safety television programs.

Youth Vice Chair Sean Pettigrew together with Youth Board member Shane Thomas.
Companies including Bright House Networks and Comcast Cable have made this programming available to their customers on a "local on demand" basis. While this content will initially be available first to hundreds of thousands individuals, we will work to ensure that it receives a much wider distribution. Our Internet safety public service announcement campaign has been very successful – and the news conference held together with Superintendent of Indiana Public Education Dr. Suellen Reed was watched by over 850,000 individuals. Net Literacy has formed a Standing Digital Inclusion Committee for the US Internet Industry Association – and is spearheading an effort to increase national attention and mobilize resources to help close the digital divide. Net Literacy is a youth empowered nonprofit with a board of directors that is 50/50 students and adults."

"Together with Youth Vice Chair Sean Pettigrew, the other Youth Board members, and the youth leadership," continues Petrovic, "hundreds of Net Literacy student volunteers will continue to make a difference throughout this country and around the world."
